  • Self Confidence and Attitude

    A story that I got from Success does not come in a day community in Orkut. Thanks to the TS Duttkumar

    A business executive was deep in debt and could see no way out. Creditors were closing in on him. Suppliers were demanding payment.

    He sat on the park bench, head in hands, wondering if anything could save his company from bankruptcy.

    Suddenly an old man appeared before him.

    “I can see that something is troubling you,” he said. After listening to the executive’s woes, the old man said, “I believe I can help you.”

    He asked the man his name, wrote out a cheque, and pushed it into his hand saying, “Take this money. Meet me here exactly one year from today, and you can pay me back at that time.” Then he turned and disappeared as quickly as he had come.

    The business executive saw in his hand a check for $500,000, signed by John D. Rockefeller, then one of the richest men in the world!

    “I can erase my money worries in an instant!” he realized. But instead, the executive decided to put the un-cashed check in his safe. Just knowing it was there might give him the strength to work out a way to save his business, he thought.

    With renewed optimism, he negotiated better deals and extended terms of payment. He closed several big sales. Within a few months, he was out of debt and making money once again.

    Exactly one year later, he returned to the park with the un-cashed check.

    At the agreed-upon time, the old man appeared. But just as the executive was about to hand back the check and share his success story, a nurse came running up and grabbed the old man.

    “I’m so glad I caught him!” she cried. “I hope he hasn’t been bothering you. He’s always escaping from the rest home and telling people he’s John D. Rockefeller. “

    And she led the old man away by the arm.

    The astonished executive just stood there, stunned. All year long he’d been wheeling and dealing, buying and selling, convinced he had half a million dollars behind him.

    Suddenly, he realized that it wasn’t the money, real or imagined, that had turned his life around. It was his newfound self-confidence that gave him the power to achieve anything he went after.

    Have faith in your self as only that counts.

  • Wikibooks – books of the future

    It’s just a fascinating idea. A book. An ebook. That can be edited by anyone, anywhere, anytime. And a collection of these, available at a website. Only wikimedia can do that.
    The concept which I believe has been conveyed by now is one of the best merits that internet has brought to human beings. No writer may be complete by himself. But the latest form of literature removes that problem – of the incompleteness.

    OK. You’ve heard that term too many times. But still doesn’t know the meaning quite exact, right?

    Now here it is
    Xenophobia is an intense and/or irrational dislike and sometimes fear of people from other countries. It comes from the Greek words ξένος (xenos), meaning “foreigner,” “stranger,” and φόβος (phobos), meaning “fear.” The term is typically used to describe a fear or dislike of foreigners or of people significantly different from oneself.

    All of us know well about wikipedia. But how many of us actually know its sisters, and its parent?
    Wikipedia was developed by Wiki Media Foundation and it has many projects under it other than the very popular wikipedia. Let me list each of them with a small description.

    • Wiktionary : multilingual free content dictionary in every language
    • Wikiquote : quotations taken from famous people, books, speeches, films or any intellectually interesting materials. Proverbs, mnemonics or slogans are also included in Wikiquote
    • Wikibooks : collection of free e-book resources, including textbooks, language courses, manuals, and annotated public domain books
    • Wikisource : collection of texts that could be distributed as free and open content
    • Wikispecies : species database for taxonomy
    • Wikinews : news on a wide variety of subjects
    • Wikiversity : learning materials and learning communities, as well as research
    • Wikimedia Commons : repository for free photographs, diagrams, maps, videos, animations, music, sounds, spoken texts, and other free media

    Each day you get tons of emails with pictures or without, but having a nice content.

    You will have to delete unwanted ones or at last your gmail or yahoo account may have nothing left.

  • Get free e-books especially pdf format

    There are many websites out there offering free e-books. Many give pdf versions whereas others provide html ones. There are a wide variety of books from editable wikibooks to pirated books too.

    It is very difficult to stick with one website and be adamant to get every book you need from the same. Websites prominent in English literature may not have a single piece on Indian History. Such difficulties cannot be eliminated.

    Though google books is an excellent resource, when it comes to latest copyrighted materials, you will have to disappoint your heart. Therefore, I am putting in a few websites which will fetch you what you want.

    When searching use phrases like “e-book”, “ebook”,”free download”, “download”,etc.
