  • Making the Best Out of Poverty

There are a lot of poor in India. Instead of seeing them as liabilities, can’t we possibly convert them into potential reserves?

    How?

This may seem a little bit absurd. But consider:

Kids among the needy are kids like us.
They are also born with the same intellectual capabilities as we are.
They can learn things as fast as we do.

Let us provide them with free education, under one condition, that when they grow up they will work for us. Free education of high quality may be costly.
But, if we take that risk and sow those seeds. In the future we may end up with a bunch of highly talented and ready to work professionals. They can be put under jobs that require skill.

To sum up, my idea is that the poor becomes a liability only when they are unskilled because unskilled labour is cheap, and difficult to obtain. But when they become skilled they are more valuable than assets. The only problem is that there is a slight risk.

This valentine’s day, my love to my girlfriend has doubled, tripled or might have become even 100-fold stronger.
Whatever I do from this point of my life henceforth will be dedicated only to her.
I will always try to impress her.
I will always work hard for her well being.
Even if I have to starve, I will try to feed her, first.
I will help her be the most beautiful.

  • When Rediff.com requested former President A P J Abdul Kalam to compose a Republic Day message for their readers, he promptly sent them this piece, which they were honoured to publish:

Dear friends, let me share with you a seven-point resolve on the occasion of ensuing Republic Day 2008:

    1. Wherever I am, a thought will always come to my mind — *What can I give?*

    2. Whatever the mission I will do, my motto will be *to work with integrity and succeed with integrity.*

    3. I will always remember that *my winged days, be not spent in vain*.

    4. I realise I have to set a great goal that will *lead me to think high*, work and realise the goal.

    5. My greatest friends will be *great human beings, great teachers and great books*.

    6. I will firmly believe that no problem can defeat me; *I will become the captain of the problem, defeat the problem and succeed.*

  • Tribute to the Tricolour

The National Flag of India was designed by Pingali Venkayyaand and adopted in its present form during the meeting of Constituent Assembly held on the 22 July 1947, a few days before India’s independence from the British on 15 August, 1947.

A flag is a necessity for all nations. Millions have died for it. It is no doubt a kind of idolatry which would be a sin to destroy. For, a flag represents an Ideal The unfurling of the Union Jack evokes in the English breast sentiments whose strength it is difficult to measure. The Stars and Stripes mean a world to the Americans. The Star and the Crescent will call forth the best bravery in Islam.

It will be necessary for us Indians Muslims, Christians Jews, Parsis, and all others to whom India is their home-to recognize a common flag to live and to die for.

  • Indian Institute of Scientific Heritage

This is my 100th post. And I’ve got nothing else as honourable to introduce to you as this website called iish.org. It is the official website of Indian Institute of Scientific Heritage. Now you will ask “What is special about this site other than that it is a website of an institute?” But the special thing is that itself. This website is the website of the Indian Institute of Scientific Heritage. The Institute specializes in the study of Indian Scientific Heritage. And when you come to know more about Indian Scientific Heritage, you will understand why I put this as my 100th post.

Ancient Indians had a whole lot of knowledge. They knew that planets revolved around sun (and not earth). They knew that pi was an irrational number whose approximate value could be given by [62000+{(100+4)*8}]/20000 = 62832/20000. They recorded all these things in the books written then. But these books turned out to be hard-to-break ciphers for the later generations. That is why much of these knowledge got unused during the older years of mother India.

Today an institue is fighting for the revival of ancient Indian knowledge to its full glory. It is working hard to make people aware of the excellent culture we had. And what more, it is providing pdf ebook english translations of many books including Vedic Management, Baudhayana Sulbasutra, Bhagavathgeetha, Bharatheeya Vijnana / Saastra Dhara, Value Based Life and Value Based Education, Aryabhateeya, and Kena Upanishad. All these are available for download if you have registered for a free account.

Also there are weekly messages about Indian culture that is available as email alert. IISH news section contains – Sanathana News, Bharath Heritage News, Dharma Sandesham, Gurudeva Sandesam /Dasami Messages, IISH Messages, and Modern India and Indians.

  • The Indian National Army soldier – Who is he?

I got this again from the India community (IC 370) in Orkut from a thread started by a person called Mukesh

The Indian Army’s soldier. Who is he?

Your alarm goes off; you hit the snooze and sleep for another 10 minutes
He stays up for days on end

You take a warm shower to help you wake up
He goes days or weeks without running water

You complain of a ‘headache’, and call in sick
He gets shot at as others are hit, and keeps moving forward

You put on your anti war/don’t support the troops shirt,
and go meet up with your friends
He still fights for your right to wear that shirt

You talk trash about your ‘buddies’ that aren’t with you
He knows he may not see some of his buddies again

You walk down the beach, staring at all the pretty girls
He walks the streets, searching for insurgents and terrorists

You complain about how hot it is
He wears his heavy gear, not daring to take off his helmet to wipe his brow

You go out to lunch, and complain because the restaurant got
    your order wrong
He doesn’t get to eat today

Your wife/mother/ maid makes your bed and washes your clothes
He wears the same things for weeks, but makes sure his weapons are clean

You go to the mall and get your hair redone
He doesn’t have time to brush his teeth today

You’re angry because your class ran 5 minutes over
He’s told he will be held over an extra 2 months

You call your girlfriend and set a date for tonight
He waits for the mail to see if there is a letter from home

You hug and kiss your girlfriend, like you do everyday
He holds his letter close and smells his love’s perfume

You roll your eyes as a baby cries
He gets a letter with pictures of his new child, and wonders if they’ll ever meet

You criticize your government, and say that war never solves anything…
He sees the innocent tortured and killed by their own people and remembers why he is fighting

You hear the jokes about the war, and make fun of men like him
He hears the gunfire, bombs and screams of the wounded – and of the innocents who have no one to stand up for them

You see only what the media wants you to see
He sees the broken bodies lying around him

You stay at home and watch TV
He takes whatever time he is given to call, write home, sleep, and eat

You crawl into your soft bed, with down pillows, and get comfortable
He crawls under a tank for shade and a 5 minute nap, only to be awakened by gunfire

You sit there and judge him, saying the world is probably a worse place because of men like him
If only there were more men like him!

  • Mr PM! Have you kept your promises?

I got this as an email.

    LETTER TO PRIME MINISTER

    Dear Mr. Prime minister

I am a typical mouse from Mumbai. In the local train compartment which has
capacity of 100 persons, I travel with 500 more mouse. Mouse at least
squeak but we don’t even do that.

Today I heard your speech. In which you said ‘NO BODY WOULD BE SPARED’. I
would like to remind you that fourteen years has passed since serial bomb
blast in Mumbai took place. Dawood was the main conspirator. Till today he
is not caught. All our bolywood actors, our builders, our Gutka king meets
him but your Government can not catch him. Reason is simple; all your
ministers are hand in glove with him. If any attempt is made to catch him
everybody will be exposed. Your statement ‘NOBODY WOULD BE SPARED’ is
nothing but a cruel joke on this unfortunate people of India.

Enough is enough. As such after seeing terrorist attack carried out by
about a dozen young boys I realize that if same thing continues days are
not away when terrorist will attack by air, destroy our nuclear reactor and
there will be one more Hiroshima.

We the people are left with only one mantra. Womb to Bomb to Tomb. You
promised Mumbaikar Shanghai what you have given us is Jalianwala Baug.

Today only your home minister resigned. What took you so long to kick out
this joker? Only reason was that he was loyal to Gandhi family. Loyalty to
Gandhi family is more important than blood of innocent people, isn’t it?

I am born and bought up in Mumbai for last fifty eight years. Believe me
corruption in Maharashtra is worse than that in Bihar. Look at all the
politician, Sharad Pawar, Chagan Bhujbal, Narayan Rane, Bal Thackray ,
Gopinath Munde, Raj Thackray, Vilasrao Deshmukh all are rolling in money.
Vilasrao Deshmukh is one of the worst Chief minister I have seen. His only
business is to increase the FSI every other day, make money and send it to
Delhi so Congress can fight next election. Now the clown has found new way
and will increase FSI for fisherman so they can build concrete house right
on sea shore. Next time terrorist can comfortably live in those house ,
enjoy the beauty of sea and then attack the Mumbai at their will.

Recently I had to purchase house in Mumbai. I met about two dozen builders.
Everybody wanted about 30% in black. A common person like me knows this and
with all your intelligent agency & CBI you and your finance minister are
not aware of it. Where all the black money goes? To the underworld isn’t
it? Our politicians take help of these goondas to vacate people by force. I
myself was victim of it. If you have time please come to me, I will tell
    you everything.

If this has been land of fools, idiots then I would not have ever cared to
write you this letter. Just see the tragedy, on one side we are reaching
moon, people are so intelligent and on other side you politician has
converted nectar into deadly poison. I am everything Hindu, Muslim,
Christian, Schedule caste, OBC, Muslim OBC, Christian Schedule caste,
Creamy Schedule caste only what I am not is INDIAN. You politician have
raped every part of mother India by your policy of divide and rule.

Take example of former president Abdul Kalam. Such a intelligent person,
such a fine human being. You politician didn’t even spare him. Your party
along with opposition joined the hands, because politician feels they are
supreme and there is no place for good person.

Dear Mr Prime minister you are one of the most intelligent person, most
learned person. Just wake up, be a real SARDAR. First and foremost expose
all selfish politician. Ask Swiss bank to give name of all Indian account
holder. Give reins of CBI to independent agency. Let them find wolf among
us. There will be political upheaval but that will better than dance of
death which we are witnessing every day. Just give us ambient where we can
work honestly and without fear. Let there be rule of law. Everything else
    will be taken care of.

Choice is yours Mr. Prime Minister. Do you want to be lead by one person or
you want to lead the nation of 100 Crore people.

  • Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan was (is) in orkut

This is really sad. It is extremely disarraying for the mind to see something like this. A young man who is on Orkut, but who is not on earth. Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan who braved his life in the fight for Taj was on orkut. This is no fake profile. He has (or had? I am in a confusion) 78 friends, but unfortunately his scrapbook is locked. The profile is going to remain as a living monument of his bravery in orkut. I got this from a very small community called Anti-Terrorist Squad, from this Sandeep Unnikrishnan -NSG Commando thread

  • Terror subduing

I was in front of NDTV all through last night. They were showing always-on live coverage of the attack against the terrorists. What I noticed amazingly striking was that though there were only about 30 terrorists in the fight, they were not so easily giving up. They have decided to give their lives for this attack to be a success – to kill maximum – so they are doing everything possible to hide from our commandos and there are more than enough places to hide in at the Taj, Oberoi Trident and Nariman House. So one thing is for sure. This is going to be a long fight. And it will be only once this is all over that we can discuss in serious where we went wrong.

But one positive thing about these attacks is the way things were handled during the crisis. The hotel staffs were exceptionally courageous and they led the guests living inside to safety before the gunmen could catch a sight of them. Also the commandos. They have been doing their duty, but exceptionally well, by capturing or killing these terrorists.

It is high time that we look into our own security. Though I may be sitting in my chair and typing this post now, I can be killed or injured at any moment. So let us unite for a better and safer India
