There are many websites out there offering free e-books. Many give pdf versions whereas others provide html ones. There are a wide variety of books from editable wikibooks to pirated books too.

It is very difficult to stick with one website and be adamant to get every book you need from the same. Websites prominent in English literature may not have a single piece on Indian History. Such difficulties cannot be eliminated.
Though google books is an excellent resource, when it comes to latest copyrighted materials, you will have to disappoint your heart. Therefore, I am putting in a few websites which will fetch you what you want.

When searching use phrases like “e-book”, “ebook”,”free download”, “download”,etc.
